I was born and raised in Helsinki, Finland. I trained in classical violin for ten years before switching to study jazz and folk violin at Helsinki Pop & Jazz Conservatoire, which was also where I first started dabbling in music and sound technology.
I discovered that Theatre Sound Design combined all my areas of interest and skill and began trying to pursue it as a career. I started getting small sound design jobs and violinist gigs, but after an unsuccessful entrance exam to the Helsinki Theatre Academy Sound Design course, I needed a change of scenery. I moved to London and got onto the Rose Bruford College Performance Sound degree course, graduating in 2013. I continued my training with different sound companies and working as an associate to sound designer Gareth Fry.
I’m based in London and working internationally. With over 25 professional sound design credits, the highlights of my career include: sound design for Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Cello Concerto written for Yo-Yo Ma, which had its world premiere in Chicago in 2017, developing and operating Complicite’s multi-award-winning The Encounter with Simon McBurney, performed around Europe and on Broadway, and Robert Wilson’s and Mikhail Baryshnikov’s Letter to a Man, which premiered in Spoleto, Italy in 2015 and toured internationally including BAM Harvey, New York. Other companies I’ve worked with include 59 Productions, Frantic Assembly, Michael Grandage Company and DV8. I’m constantly looking for new opportunities in Sound Design, and if I get to squeeze in some folk music, acoustic instruments or organic sounds I couldn’t be happier.
